Rookies is a film about 4 athletes learning the ropes on the world stage of freeride skiing. Navigating the line between a documentary style and traditional ski film, Rookies follows the trails blazed by 3 Verbier locals - Elisabeth Gerritzen, Carl Renvall, Yann Rausis and one mad kiwi - Sam Lee.
Exploring the stress and simultaneous euphoria the athletes experience during their premier season on the Freeride World Tour. On this journey, we learn with the Rookies from veterans of the sport about how to focus, perform on comp day and keep their spot on the Tour.

Carl Renvall is a local from Verbier with Swiss and Swedish heritage. His skiing style is as unique and free flowing as his hair. Qualifying for the Tour at just 19 years old straight from the Juniors, gave him real direction and purpose. In his own words.. "If it wasn't for skiing, I'd probably be a homeless bum".
Elisabeth Gerritzen grew up between Verbier and Lausanne and now claims to live a double life. In her Lausanne life, Elis is a motivated student who applies herself to studies in International Relations. In her Verbier life, lessons are learnt on snow as she rallies for the Freeride World Tour.
As the son of a Mountain guide, competitive skiing was a natural progression for Yann Rausis. Born in the Entremont Valley, Yann now commutes between Verbier and Lausanne juggling skiing life and his studies in physics.
Originally from New Zealand, Sam ‘The Ibex’ Lee has been riding around Verbier for the past 4 winters. Sam is a hard charging mountain Ibex that is most comfortable in steep exposed terrain with minimal snow coverage.
